Ninon is the co-founder of EROS+VESTA. Her characteristic French influence and idiosyncratic neutral colour palette are the heart of EROS+VESTA. Her interest in art and design awoke at a young age finding art treasures in old bookstores and antiquity shops in France. After travelling the world and living in Japan and Australia she is now based in Vancouver. Strongly influenced by Matisse, Picasso and the Modern Art Movement, she interrogates her French cultural heritage to find inspiration. Her work reflects simplicity, sophistication and a minimalistic flow of soft lines.
Love of Lines
EROS+VESTA was founded in 2020 by husband-wife team Dan and Ninon Yurkewich in Vancouver. Their recent move after living & travelling around the world led them to the new challenge of decorating their home! It quickly became clear that the home decor market was not offering artwork that simultaneously took high-end design and sustainability into account. They took matters into their own hands and decided to start EROS+VESTA with the aim to create sustainable fine art prints they love and would be proud to showcase at their place (and yours)!
Ninon’s characteristic French influence and idiosyncratic neutral colour palette are the heart of EROS+VESTA. The company was created to channel the Ancient Greek concept of “Aisthetikos”(aesthetics) as the perception of art, design or beauty by the senses. Subsequently, our brand is an allegory of this concept as Eros in Greek mythology is the god of love as for Vesta the goddess of earth, home and domestic life.
It all began in Australia. Ninon had moved there after traveling the world and living in Tokyo while Dan was taking a break from corporate life to fulfill one of his dreams. Long story short, the two met, travelled, married (twice) and began exploring all options to make this company a reality. Their common vision is that all EROS+VESTA products should be well designed, sustainable, accessible and timeless.
All EROS+VESTA prints are Giclée (Zhee-clay) quality and made using premium 100% Cotton Rag paper that is acid, lignin, chlorine, and OBA free. Cotton rag has long been regarded as the most sustainable form of paper on the planet, not only due to the fact that it contains no alpha-cellulose (tree) fibres whatsoever, but that the cotton seeds used to make the paper are themselves byproducts of the textile industry (aka recycled)! We then take things another step further by using an uncoated paper surface with no OBA (Optical Brightening Agents)…if you need a takeaway, our prints are made without trees and unnecessary chemicals. Giclée is a French term meaning “to spray” (referring to the printer nozzle), but what makes it so important? Fundamentally, this is the highest classification of premium art print production today due to the quality and longevity of the prints produced by this technique (museum grade). In order to be coined ‘Giclée,’ an art print must exhibit the following key characteristics:
We understand sustainability as meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It is through this mindset that we have been working very hard to create a vibrant and sustainable company. Each piece of work stamped EROS+VESTA is the result of endless brainstorming and research to do our best to preserve the environment and align personal and corporate values. Together, let’s break the myth of unaffordable sustainability by making responsible & reasonable purchases. We hope you will follow us as we turn our dreams into reality!
